What are the different levels of play available within Tanque Verde Soccer Club? Typical ages are U6 through U12. Players register and are placed on a TVSC team (no tryouts). All games are played at one location (Emily Gray J.H.S). All games are against other TVSC teams. Season runs September through mid-December. Typical ages are U10 through U18. Games are played at parks throughout Tucson. Coach is commonly a parent of one of the players and has had the team together for multiple years. Existing teams don't typically hold tryouts, but they selectively fill spots on roster at coaches discretion. Will play a PCJSL schedule against other Tucson clubs. May play Tucson-based tournaments. Typical ages are U10 through U18. Coach is Nationally licensed and has some years of coaching experience. Hold tryouts each season and coach and TVSC DoC collaborate on team roster selection. May play a PCJSL schedule and/or State League schedule. May play Tucson-based tournaments, but will likely also travel to play in other AZ and/or out-of-state tournaments.

Where are practices held? All practices are at parks and/or schools in the northeast Tucson area (primarily the Tanque Verde valley) Training sessions could be held at any one of the 4 designated TVSC parks: McDonald, Udall, Lincoln or Gridley Middle School. How much does it cost to play? Registration for the 2010-2011 season: U6: $90, U8: $120, U10/U12: $150 Registration for the 2010-2011 season: U10 - U18: $195 Registration for the 2010-2011 season: U10 - U18: $195 - In addition, you can expect additional training fees, tournament fees and travel expenses.
When does the season start (and end)? The Regular Season starts in Early September and ends around the middle of December. For those who wish to continue to play, there is the option of "B-Season", which is the opportunity for U-10 and U-12 Rec teams to play a PCJSL citywide schedule from January through April, just like the Competitive/Citywide teams. What is the "B-Season"? B-season is an opportunity for U-10 and U-12 Recreational teams to play a citywide/competitive schedule during the second half of the season (January through April). For kids who have only played in the TVSC Rec program, this gives them a good idea of what the citywide program is like and where they may wish to progress with their youth soccer career. B-Season is not applicable for the Citywide/Competitive program. B-Season is not applicable for the Premier program.
My son/daughter is not old enough to play "B-Season" yet, but he/she really wants to continue to play. Is there anything for them in the second half of the season? The TVSC coaching staff holds a Winter Skills academy in January/February each year. This is a camp style academy where the kids come out twice a week, usually for a couple hours a day, and work on soccer skills and play soccer games. It's an opportunity for younger kids to continue to play the game they love, and learn a lot in the process. Winter Skills Academy is not applicable for the Citywide/Competitive program. Winter Skills Academy is not applicable for the Citywide/Competitive program.
How are the teams formed? TVSC Rec committee forms teams from all registered players. Players are selected-by the individual team coaches, based on skill and level of commitment, and placed on teams. Do teams hold tryouts? If so, when? No The player selection process is up to the individual team coach. He/She has discretion to choose any player by whatever criteria he/she chooses. TVSC holds Player Placements each year, somewhere in the May timeframe. This is an opportunity for players to be evaluated and placed on a Premier team.
Can my child play with the same team for 2+ years? The TVSC Rec committee attempts to balance all TVSC Rec teams in order to provide the best soccer experience for all players and families. Consideration may be given to special requests for siblings, family, friends, carpools, etc. Sure. This decision is up to the parents and the coach. Yes. Each year the TVSC staff will evaluate players and teams to ensure the soccer experience remains appropriate.

Who will the team play? All games are against other TVSC Rec teams. Games will be against other soccer clubs from the Tucson area. Matches may be against other soccer clubs from the Tucson area. In addition, there could be matches against teams from Phoenix and the surrounding areas.
Who will coach the team? Most coaches are parents of players on the team. Coach could be the parent of a player on the team. In most cases the coach has a national coaching license and some number of years of youth soccer coaching experience.
Do coaches receive compensation? No. TVSC Rec coaches are volunteers Coaches are typically volunteers. In most cases, the coach will charge training fees. The fees are based on a formula which includes such things as: number of coaching certifications held, level of certifications held, and years of coaching experience.
Will the team have to travel outside of Tucson? No The team will not have to travel outside of Tucson. However, some teams may choose to do so on a very infrequent basis. It is very common that the team will travel to matches/tournaments outside of Tucson, on a regular basis, throughout the course of a season.

Will there be any cost in addition to the TVSC registration cost? In most cases, No. There could be some additional costs involved if the team decides to participate in tournament play. Yes. Training fees, tournament fees and travel expenses are typical costs for a Premier team.
