Texas Will Remember the TVSC 95 Girls

HOUSTON, TX - The TVSC 95 Girls, Walter Sanchez's 2011-2012 undefeated first place finishers in Arizona's Division I State League regular tournament play, just returned from an impressive weekend in Houston, TX at the 2012 Texas Shootout, sponsored by the Challenge Soccer Club. This tournament, in its 25th year, is among the nation's top college recruiting events.

With a tough three game schedule against Texas's top rated teams, the TVSC "Samba" girls recorded a record of 0-2-1, with only three goals scored against them during the weekend, including a 0-1 loss against last year's Texas Cup champions, the Sting Royal 95.

The Texas Shootout is a college showcase event, where girls are evaluated and considered for college scholarships. According to Team Manager at the event, Renee Carstens, during one of TVSC's games "seven girls on the opposing team had already been committed [to colleges]."

The hundreds of college coaches attending the Texas Shootout are supplied with player profiles online, in a tournament book and by detailed team brochures. With the TVSC 95 Girls, they found not only a highly talented team on the pitch, but also a clearly academically gifted team with an average GPA of 3.75. Coaches who attended Friday night's game also returned to see them again on Saturday and Sunday and definitely spread the word.

Said one coach: "Tucson, Arizona?" "Hmmmm….. I like the way you Arizona girls play."

We eagerly anticipate forthcoming offers for the talented 95 Girls team.

TVSC 98 Girls Blue

Good luck on Saturday!

Playing in the U-14 division in the 2012 State Cup Tournament, the TVSC 98 Girls Blue charged out of the gate with two strong performances on the weekend. Their Saturday match, a hard fought endeavor with Flagstaff SC United 98 ended in a 2-2 draw. And on Sunday, despite their best efforts, they were unable to find the net and fell to a very formidable Ahwatukee Girls 98 White side, 0-4.

Despite their Sunday result, Coach Al Robles was pleased with the girls effort and knows that this teams tournament run is far from over. "We just need to win on Saturday and we still have a really good chance to advance" said Robles. So, that is exactly what he and his girls will look to do. The 98 Girls Blue will face CCV Stars 98 Black on Saturday, April 28th in a 2:05pm match at Reach 11 Sports Complex #14.

Advance to State Cup Quarter Finals

Playing in the U-17 division in the 2012 State Cup Tournament, 95 Girls Blue secured first place in their bracket over the weekend with decisive victories in the group play round. On Saturday at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, TVSC 95 Girls defeated Phoenix-based CCV Orange 6-0, and in 100° temperatures on Sunday, won over the Tucson-based Ft. Lowell Gunners 8-1.

Coach Walter Sanchez, pleased with the girls' performance, is preparing the team for a tougher road ahead. "Going into the tournament as the top seed helped earn us a favorable draw in group play," he said. "But we still have some work to do next weekend to advance to the Semi-finals on May 5."

The team will face the second place seed from Bracket B next Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix in the quarterfinal match.
